When I was in
grade school, I was required to memorize some of
the scripture passages. Those that have a lot of
meaning for me have stuck with me all these
years. They speak to me over and over as I go
through the "trials and tribulations" of trying
to live a spiritual life in a secular world.
I memorized them
in the King James version, because I was raised
in a protestant home. I do love these scriptures
in that version. It's a beautiful language. But
sometimes, it is difficult to understand.
This scripture in
the New American Standard version reads: "Trust in the LORD
with all your heart And do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight."
It says the same
thing, but in a language we can understand
today. I think many of us need to be reminded
daily, if not hourly, that if we trust in God
completely, and seek His guidance in every
situation, he will keep us on the "straight and
narrow path". It's when we try to understand and
rationalize things and follow human logic alone
that we begin to make wrong choices which lead
us down the wrong path.
Whenever someone
says to me "He will never change" or "It won't
work" or "You can't do that" I remind
myself of this
scripture. If we are seeking the will of God,
asking Him to guide us and help us, all things
are possible! |
